The US State Department released a statement saying, “Our embassy and consulates in India issued an all-time record of more than Indian students 140,000 visas.”
Additionally, more business and tourist visas were issued by the US than in any other fiscal year since 2016.
Between October 2022 and September 2023, the US issued Indian students 600,000 visas; during that time, the State Department issued more than 10.4 million non-immigrant visas worldwide, with about 25% of those being Indian.

However, foreign visitors also play a vital role in fostering interpersonal relationships and providing significant economic advantages to both host communities and important areas of the US economy.
In the fiscal year 2023, the State Department granted over 10.4 million nonimmigrant visas worldwide, almost a record amount. According to the statement, half of all US embassies and consulates throughout the world “adjudicated more nonimmigrant visas than ever before.”
Additionally, the US issued more business and tourist visas than it has in any previous fiscal year since 2016—nearly eight million total.
International students in US colleges and universities contribute up to $38 billion to the US economy each year as part of attempts to prepare Americans for a global environment and to draw future leaders from abroad. Additionally, the State Department granted around 40,000 student visas to African applicants, with over 9,700 of those being from Nigeria.
In terms of enhancing both economic and national security, foreign tourists have recently supported an estimated 9.5 million American employment and added up to $239 billion in annual spending to the US economy.
In order to meet the need for labor in industries like agriculture and other fields where there is a shortage of US workers, the US also granted 442,000 visas to temporary and seasonal workers. According to the statement, this addressed the underlying reasons of irregular migration and benefited the US economy.
590,000 non-immigrant visas were granted to leaders and highly talented individuals to collaborate with US professionals in some of the most important industries for the US, such healthcare and rising technology.
The airline and shipping crew personnel who are vital to the upkeep of international transportation and supply lines that sustain world economies were granted nearly 365,000 non-immigrant visas.
In order to expedite visa procedures, the US is currently investigating new technologies. One such technology is the ability to renew some visa categories domestically. The statement declared, “America is open for business, and US visa operations support the nation every day.”
