The OnePlus 12 has been formally released in China, and the most expensive variant has more RAM than my desktop gaming PC did until recently.

While the base variant of the flagship smartphone has 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM, Chinese consumers who choose the highest-end model receive 1TB of storage and 24GB of RAM. OnePlus has not yet confirmed the plans for its “early 2024” global launch.

The RAM on the phone isn’t the only noteworthy feature. With support for both 50W wireless charging and 100W cable fast charging (a feature that was completely absent from the OnePlus 11), charging speeds are also rapid. Our experience with the previous OnePlus 11 indicates that in the US, the 100W fast charging is probably equivalent to 80W. The battery of the OnePlus 12 is rated at 5,400mAh.

The OnePlus 12 boasts three cameras on its back: a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with a 3x optical zoom, and a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens. Naturally, they have the Hasselblad logo on them once more, and a 32-megapixel selfie camera is included. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the newest flagship CPU from Qualcomm, powers the phone.

The phone is available in green, white, and black. It is rated IP65, which is a little improvement over the IP64 classification of the OnePlus 11, for dust and water protection. Practically speaking, this means that while it is still protected against dust and other solid particles, it should now be shielded from water jets as opposed to only splashes.

Beyond “early 2024,” OnePlus 12 has not officially confirmed a specific date for the phone’s global release; however, there have been reports that it will happen around late January. The entry-level edition of the phone in China has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for ¥4,299 (about $606); if you want the full 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, the price goes up to ¥5,799 (about $818). The cost in other countries has not yet been disclosed.
