The earthquake that was reported 800 kilometers southeast of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean at a depth of 10 kilometers poses no threat to Sri Lanka, according to the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.

A 5-magnitude earthquake that day occurred in the northwest of the Dominican Republic, close to the Haitian border.
