Mercedes-Benz’s run of three consecutive victories has been halted by BMW’s flagship vehicle.

The ICOTY Premium Car Award 2024 went to the BMW 7 Series. The German carmaker’s flagship vehicle in its most recent iteration has been hailed as a game-changer for its tremendous technological capability as well as its unusual appearance. The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 won the category last year, and the BMW 7 Series edged out the other competitors.

Indian automotive journalists from magazines, newspapers, and other media outlets, notably Auto Today magazine, make up the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) Jury. Yogendra Pratap, Editor of Auto Today, and Rahul Ghosh, Associate Editor of Auto Today, are two of the eighteen journalists on the ICOTY Jury for 2024. Each juror that tests these vehicles is given a total of 25 points to be awarded. To ensure transparency and prevent any one jury member from influencing the prize, the 25 points will be shared among five contender cars, with no car receiving more than 10 points from any one member. This will eliminate any possibility of bias in the selection process.

The President of BMW Group India, Vikram Pawah, expressed his gratitude to the ICOTY jury for identifying the BMW 7 as the clear winner that it is after the car won the Premium Car of the Year 2024 title. The seventh iteration of the BMW 7 Series represents “Forwardism,” a distinctive attribute that sets apart individuals who define the future and constantly pushes the boundaries of the ordinary. The all-new 7 is the face of the upcoming luxury class, and it dazzles with its presence, forward-thinking attitude, and emotion. It is a work of art and a message suited for progressive leaders, promising enduring curiosity far into the future.”

Eight vehicles competed for the title of Best Premium Car of 2024 by ICOTY: BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X1, Lexus LX, Lexus RX, Volvo C40 Recharge, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Land Rover Range Rover Sport to name a few. The BMW X1 finished in second place, with the Mercedes-Benz GLC taking third place overall.

Earlier this year, BMW introduced the BMW 7 Series and its all-electric sibling, the BMW i7, in India. The vehicle is currently available in the 740i M Sport and 740d M Sport gasoline and diesel versions. The striking outward appearance of the premium sedan is matched with an impressive interior, which is topped off by a gigantic 8K roof-mounted display.
