Major bus accident in Doda, J&K kills 38; L-G Manoj Sinha offers condolences

A bus carrying up to 38 people died when it fell around 200 meters down a precipitous slope close to the Doda district in J&K

The incident occurred when the bus travelling from Kishtwar to Jammu veered off the road and plunged down the steep slope near Trungal in the Assar area.

The bus was ferrying 55 passengers. To begin rescue efforts and determine the scope of the catastrophe, the local authorities—including the police and rescue teams—rushed to the scene. According to preliminary indications from the Doda Police Control Room, the number of fatalities may reach 20 or higher.

“A passenger bus, on its way from Kishtwar to Jammu, veered off the roads and fell down 200 meters on another road near Trungal in the Assar area of Doda district. Ten passengers are dead and the toll is likely to go up,” said a police officer at police control room Doda.

The authorities continued, “The wounded have been transported to adjacent medical facilities in order to obtain emergency care.”

Later, SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom reported that 38 persons had passed away as a result of the tragedy.

J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed profound sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
