IPL 2024 skipper Shubman Gill was chosen for the Gujarat Titans

Shubman Gill was selected captain of the Gujarat Titans today in preparation for the 2024 Indian Premier League.

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill was named following the team’s confirmation of Hardik Pandya’s trade return to the Mumbai Indians:

After leading GT to an IPL win in 2022 and a runner-up finish in 2023, Hardik will hand the reins to Shubman Gill, who won the Orange Cap earlier this year.

Shubman Gill has shown an increase in stature and prominence at the top of the game during the last two years. He has shown growth as a leader in cricket as well as a hitter. Through his on-field contributions, the Gujarat Titans have become a formidable force, leading the team to a successful 2022 campaign and a successful 2023 campaign. “We are thrilled to start a new journey with a young leader like Shubman at the helm. Vikram Solanki, Director of Cricket for the Gujarat Titans, remarked, “His on-field performance demonstrates his maturity and skill.”

The Gujarat Titans’ first captain, Hardik Pandya, guided the group to two amazing seasons that featured one IPL championship and one trip to the final game. He now says he wants to play for his old team, the Mumbai Indians. We honor his choice and hope the best for him in all of his future endeavors.”

Shubman Gill was the most apparent option for the position because he had a prolific 2023 record and 890 runs at an average of 59.33 from 17 matches, making him the second-highest scorer of all time after Virat Kohli’s 973 total. Another name circulating was Kane Williamson, but the team believed that no one could represent them more than the up-and-coming captain and face of Indian cricket.

“I thank the Gujarat Titans for putting their faith in me to lead such a great squad. I am thrilled and happy to take up the captaincy. Following his promotion, Gill stated, “We have had two fantastic seasons, and I am really looking forward to leading the squad with our exciting brand of cricket.

Reuniting with MI family members Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and the rest of the team, Hardik’s comeback represents a meaningful homecoming. He first gained notoriety with MI, and in 2016 he made his debut for India. Hardik, the top all-rounder for India, was essential to MI’s incredible four IPL victories from 2015 to 2021.

“We are overjoyed to have Hardik return home. Our reunion with our Mumbai Indian family is quite touching. Hardik has come a long way from being a young Mumbai Indians scouted prospect to now being a star for team India, and we’re excited for what the future holds for him and Mumbai Indians,” Nita Ambani said.
